Getting the most out of your bedding and ensuring your herd stays healthy!

We understand that the comfort and health of your herd is one of the key priorities for all our cattle farming customers. Cleanliness can play a major part of this, which is why its important to ensure we all take steps to keep our customers cows as clean and healthy as possible.

Much like us humans, cows will always prefer clean and comfortable bedding to wet, dirty cubicles. Regular mucking out and refreshing of bedding can vastly improve the comfort as your herd, and comfortable cows are happy cows – often improving milk production.
Ensuring a good level of cleanliness can also help to reduce rates of mastitis amongst your cows, as dirty bedding can harbour bacteria which can infect the udder if your animals are lying in it for a prolonged period.

Good quality bedding is particularly important in the winter months when cattle are housed indoors, as these conditions can be ripe for the transmission of infection without the proper precautions. Proper ventilation and cleanliness can help to reduce this risk.

Preventing excess moisture build-up in the cubicles will reduce the amount of bacteria and limit its opportunity to spread or infect your herd. This also helps to keep your cows comfortable as they are not lying in wet cubicles for prolonged periods. In particularly damp or cold weather, extra bedding may be required to ensure cubicles are kept clean and dry.
